Recommendations to protect your home from the rain

This year the rainy season in Mexico seems to have come a little earlier than usual. According to meteorological statistics, mid-May is the time when cyclones arrive in the Pacific, and fifteen days later in the Atlantic. Now, well into May, the downpours have already begun. And with the downpours come floods in the streets and something more urgent and complicated: filtrations, leaks and humidity in the houses.

Here are some recommendations to protect your home during this rainy season.

First of all, the roof must be maintained. Inspect the shingles and surfaces. Any flaw or damage must be repaired to avoid leaks or major damage.

If your house has gutters, make sure they are clear. It is common for leaves, branches, dirt or garbage to accumulate. Having a clogged gutter is much more likely to generate puddles and these, in turn, will generate leaks or damp spots. Consider regularly pruning the trees whose foliage is on the roof of your house to avoid the accumulation of leaves and branches.

Make sure window and door gaskets and seals are in good condition. Old or cracked gaskets can cause uncomfortable water leaks.

These are just a few of the recommendations we offer to keep your home protected from the inclemency of the rainy season.
